Use your HEART not your head to heal depression, anxiety & trauma

You know that Einstein quote, "You cannot solve a problem with the same mind that created it"?

I think about this quote often, when working with clients, like me, who have active minds that are searching for solutions to their symptoms of depression, anxiety and trauma. This makes sense, especially when we have survived painful experiences by leaving our bodies, and protected ourselves using defenses like overthinking, worrying, strategizing and perfecting.

I have been there! I get it.

From my experience, true healing begins when we dare to step beyond the familiar territories of our thoughts and into the felt sense in our bodies.

But, how do we start? Somatic therapies and psychedelic-assisted therapy can be game changers, leading to transformative change and embodied living. However, we do not have to wait to find a therapist; we can also cultivate this way of embodied being on our own, using contemplative and body-based practices like yoga, meditation, and guided body scans. Yet, sometimes it feels hard and our overthinking minds can make us think these practices are not helping.

That is why I want to share one of my new favorite obsessions. This biofeedback gadget helps me connect with my breath, body, and heart so that I can let go of my over-dependence on my active mind. After just a few minutes, I feel calm, grounded, and sturdy. It guides me and gives me instant feedback about how my thoughts, feelings and breath affect my nervous system and lets me make a game of improving, what it calls "heart coherence".  The Inner Balance Coherence Plus by HeartMath is around $250, and for me, it has been worth it. In my practice, I have shared it with clients who also report feelings of well-being and relaxation with a short app-led session.

Hi, I'm Mary
I help clients heal their wounded parts so that they can claim the superpowers of post-traumatic growth and live integrated, authentic lives. Psychedelics support clients in acknowledging and healing those hurt places so they no longer have to defend against their (often unconscious) feelings. In the process, layers of protection fall away, and the beauty of their truest selves is revealed. That is why I call my blog SOUL DIG. When the protective walls come down, our souls are revealed.
